Our delivery timing tests show what online shoppers want answered before they buy: when will it arrive?
Most Small Business Saturday ideas are about promotion: emails, social posts, discount codes. Those bring people in. The ideas below are about what happens once they land, based on what we have tested on product pages.
Idea 1: A ships-today cutoff lifted conversion 7.5%
A product page said free shipping, but not when an order would ship. We tested 2 options: a 24-hour shipping promise, and a ships today cutoff with an order-by window. With the cutoff, conversion rose 7.5% and revenue per visitor rose 12.8% over 20 days.

Idea 2: A delivery date field by the button lifted conversion 8.0%
A product page button said Select Delivery Date. We tested Add to Cart, with and without a delivery date field beside it. Add to Cart with the date field won, lifting conversion 8.0% and revenue per visitor 6.8% over 22 days.

Idea 3: Offer pickup, and say when it’s ready
If you have a shop, buy online, pick up in store solves the delivery question for local shoppers. It also fits the spirit of the day. Show pickup on the product page, not only at checkout, and say when the order will be ready. “Ready for pickup in 2 hours” answers the same question as a ships-today cutoff.
To make pickup work on the busiest weekend of the year:
- Show it before checkout. A pickup option that only appears at the last step can’t win the sale earlier.
- Give a ready time, and a cutoff. “Order by 2 pm for same-day pickup” works the same way as a ships-today cutoff.
- Tell people where to go. Hours, parking and whether someone brings the order out. Uncertainty about the trip can stop an order as easily as uncertainty about shipping.
- Confirm fast. Send a clear “your order is ready” message with the pickup details.
Idea 4: Tell shoppers you’re a small business
Shoppers on Small Business Saturday are looking for small businesses on purpose. In the same Amex study, 76% of consumers said small businesses are essential to their community. Many also find them through others: 75% said community recommendations on social media influence where they shop small.
So make it easy to see that you are the kind of store they set out to support. Say who you are and where you are, near the top of the homepage and on product pages. Point the social posts you share that weekend to the products they feature, not just to your homepage.
Idea 5: Holiday imagery is not a sure win
During the holiday season, we tested a holiday lifestyle image in place of a desktop product page’s standard hero image, with nothing else changed. Conversion moved +1.2% over 12 days, short of our confidence bar.

Idea 6: Test before the rush, not during it
Don't trust a peak week result until you retest it.
Holiday shoppers act differently from the rest of the year. During peak I watch results several times a day, but I never call a test on less than a full day of data, and I retest the winner once traffic returns to normal.
Start your tests by early November so they can run 2 full weeks before the holiday weekend. Then freeze big changes during the peak. Our guide Black Friday ecommerce strategy: what to test now and what to freeze covers the timing, and our experimentation and testing team can run the tests for you.
A Small Business Saturday countdown for 2026
- By Nov 1: launch your tests on delivery timing, pickup and your top product pages, so they get 2 full weeks of data.
- Nov 15 to 20: read the results and implement the winners. Check revenue per visitor, not just conversion.
- Nov 21 to 25: freeze big changes. Set your last order dates for holiday delivery and show them on product pages.
- Nov 26 to 30: Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Watch the numbers several times a day, but make no calls on less than a full day of data.
- December: retest anything you learned during the peak, once traffic returns to normal.
On Small Business Saturday, the best offer is a clear answer to “when will I get it?”
