Which headline copy gets more visitors into a lead form?

Our tax relief lead form led with a plain headline. We tested 4 new headlines, each built on a different motivator. Over 21 days, no headline beat the original, and the recorded lift of +2.1% did not reach our confidence bar.

The hypothesis

By rewriting the headline around 1 motivator at a time, we will learn which message pulls visitors deeper into the funnel, resulting in more completed leads.

The headline is the first thing visitors read before they decide to start the form. We did not know which message mattered most to this audience: proof that others trust the service, how easy the form is, relief from worry, or the value of the help.

Testing 1 motivator per variation let us compare them side by side.

What we changed

We tested 4 headlines, each built on a different motivator.

The control kept the original headline. Each variation swapped in a new headline built on 1 motivator: social proof, ease of use, easing anxiety, or the value of the service. The form, the steps and the rest of the page stayed the same.

The result

CONVERSION RATE
+2.1%

Every variation was down or flat against the control from the start. Traffic was low, so we kept the test running for 21 days before calling it. The recorded lift of +2.1% sits within normal noise and did not reach our confidence bar. We paused all variations and moved on to testing the form steps.

What we would do next

No single headline motivator moved visitors into the form.

On this page, the headline was not what held visitors back. All 4 messages performed about the same as the original, which points to the form itself as the place to look. Our next tests on this funnel shortened the lead form instead.
